Going Back

While I had family here last month, they visited a couple of farms that we used to own. Always mixed feelings, to go back and see how it looks now, and remember times that have passed. The first photo is of the dairy we used to own, and is no longer used. DD3 laughed about how she thought it was a really big dairy, and how small it really is! But she was only 7 when we moved from there, so things would have looked large. We milked about 120 cows while we were there, and that is probably a small dairy by today’s standards. Guess they call it progress, when smaller places are bought out by larger enterprises.

We built this house when we moved to the property, and planted all the trees around the house, so it’s great to see how they have grown.

And the next few photos are all of the farming property we owned not far from here. We have been gone from here for 14 years now, and it is a long time since I have been out there. Once again, a property that has been bought by the neighbours, and the house is rented out, and the sheds mostly not used.

It was good to see all the trees that we planted and how they have grown. In fact, some had been cut down, as it was a bit crowded. When you plant them, don’t often think of how much space they will take up in 20 years time. I like to think of it as a legacy that my husband has left, because he loved his trees.

Most of the farm is now being cropped, whereas we used to grow crops, run sheep and beef cattle.

The old shearing shed, now unused and full of cobwebs, and bees, and used as storage for “stuff”.

The shearers have gone home.

The cattle yards are empty.

The house is still used, and surrounded now by trees .

It was lovely to visit, and for DD3 to show her fiance where she grew up. We lived there for 10 years, so lots of memories, some good and some not so good.
